Thrive Socially: A Skills & Support Group for Pre-Teens

Is your pre-teen navigating the exciting, yet often challenging, social landscape of middle school? The years between 10 and 12 are a time of significant growth, changing friendships, and increasing social complexity. Our "Thrive Socially" group is specifically designed to empower your child during this crucial developmental stage.

More Than Just Skills – A Space to Connect and Grow

This group blends practical social skills training with a supportive process environment. We go beyond simply teaching skills; we create a safe and confidential space where members can:

  • Share Real-Life Experiences: Discuss the social highs and lows they encounter at school, online, and with friends and family.
  • Gain Peer Support: Connect with others facing similar challenges, realizing they aren't alone.
  • Process Feelings: Understand and manage the complex emotions that come with navigating social situations.
  • Build Confidence: Recognize their strengths and develop greater self-awareness.

What We'll Explore Together:

Led by a clinical psychologist, this engaging group uses interactive activities, role-playing, and guided discussions to cover essential areas:

  • Foundations & Self-Awareness: Understanding personal strengths, identifying social challenges, and recognizing emotions in ourselves and others.
  • Communication & Connection: Mastering active listening, expressing oneself assertively (using "I" statements), respectfully saying no, understanding nonverbal cues (including sarcasm), and navigating digital communication (netiquette).
  • Navigating Friendships: Identifying healthy relationships, making and keeping friends, handling disagreements constructively, and managing group dynamics like cliques, exclusion, gossip, and rumors.
  • Emotional Regulation & Coping: Developing strategies to manage strong feelings like anger, frustration, and anxiety, coping with disappointment and stress, and building resilience through positive self-talk.
  • Social Problem-Solving: Learning effective steps to tackle tricky social dilemmas and practicing perspective-taking to understand others' viewpoints.
  • Putting It All Together: Integrating skills to handle challenging real-world situations, planning for future social success, and identifying personal support systems.
